The PharmPro Contract Services Division of Fluid Air Inc. was recently issued a Patent for its DuraGran® Method for Producing Small Granules. This method will enable pharmaceutical developers and producers of modified release solid dosage forms to incorporate a unique protected method of manufacturing granules to extend or design around existing Orange Book referenced patents. The method more than quadruples throughput by eliminating time consuming processes such as rotogranulating, coating of API on sugar seeds, or extrusion and spheronizing of high shear granulated API.

The DuraGran method produces small, durable, high drug load API granules (< 20 mesh) suitable for subsequent processing steps such as Wurster coating.  The method utilizes traditional solid dosage processing equipment including fluid beds, high shear granulators, and mills as manufactured by Fluid Air, Inc. It is capable of achieving a high yield of granules in a narrow particle range and reduces the amount of API scrapped during granule manufacturing for the finished product.
